History of Nullawil

Nullawil was established with the development of the Wycheproof to Sea Lake railway, which was opened to both goods and passenger traffic, and was proclaimed a township on 17th June 1898. Water for domestic and stock use was then channelled to the district from 1908. This channel system has recently been converted to pipeline as part of the Wimmera Mallee Pipeline Project. Nullawil Post Office opened on 26 April 1897.

Auchmore Museum

Nullawil is also home to ‘Auchmore,’ a historic homestead museum housing all the necessities used by the early pioneers of the district.  Auchmore museum is an original farm homestead fitted out in period design as well as many out buildings from the era. An original drop log hut with an earthen floor used by the first white settlers has been relocated to the site as well as a school, church and other outbuildings. The museum proudly preserves the history of Nullawil and district for future generations to enjoy. Access is gained by appointment only.

The school is sometimes used by current day school children to give them a taste of what it was like for their ancestors.
